Thinking about Baptism for your child?

Every parent wants the best for their child. We care for our children’s physical health and help them to develop their mental skills too. So it is natural that we recognise that spiritual growth and development is vital as well.

Baptism marks the beginning of a spiritual journey that will last for the rest of our lives. Jesus was baptised by John in the River Jordan and we are told that as he came up out of the water, the Holy Spirit descended upon him as a dove and he heard the voice of his Father expressing his utter delight in his Son.

In baptism we join the fellowship of the world-wide Christian Church and become members of the Body of Christ. In time the Church prays that the child will confirm this faith and lead its life as a follower of Jesus Christ.

How do I arrange a baptism?

The first step is to contact the Vicar on 01963 351615 or via email

Baptisms can take place during the regular 10am Sunday service. It is also possible to hold a baptism service at 12.30pm.

You may want to choose your Godparents carefully. This is an important role and the rules of the Church of England require all Godparents to be baptised themselves.

Because taking this first step on a journey of faith is such an important moment in your child's life, we would like to offer you the opportunity to prepare for this.

You will be invited to come along to a Saturday morning Session bringing with you any Godparents and relatives. We offer a space to explore the Christian faith and to understand what it means to belong to the Church. The date for your baptism service will be confirmed at this Session.

Adults who are considering baptism are invited to six sessions of the Pilgrim Course where you will have the opportunity to explore more fully the step that you are about to take.

You are also invited to attend church services before and afterwards. Some are more suited to younger children – see Messy Church.

In an emergency situation baptism is available at any time. Contact the vicar on 01963 351615.

There is no charge for a baptism, but any freewill offering is always gratefully received.
